About

This is the visual record of a macro a day journey by the Macro Queen herself…..ME

Starting on the 1st of June 2010, I will be taking a macro photo every day.

There are many benefits to taking a photo a day but what I enjoy the most is the creativity that comes  from being able to look at every day objects from a totally different perspective and then share this.

A little about me:

I’ve been interested in photography since being a young girl and this interest in it has never waned.

It was whilst using a Canon SLR (in the old film days) that I got my first  set of Hoya Close Up filters and put them on the end of a lens.

It just blew me away.

Time went on, my skill level improved and my son came along as did the reasonably priced cameras for the digital age which saw me getting a Canon Point and Shoot.

This was much easier to use during the early years of my sons life and I could record his first steps but I made sure that the point and shoot could shoot in Manual mode to keep the creativity happening.

A few years later I went and bought myself a Canon 400d and a real live 100 f/2.8 USM macro lens.  I couldn’t get over the weight difference between that and the point and shoot but I soon got used to it and was just over the moon to have a 1:1 lens.

As the journey continued, the next item on my macro list was a Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX. This additional lighting has proved invaluable in being able to capture nice sharp pictures of beetles, bugs and butterflies etc. I then topped off the lighting list by buying a 580EXII flash, which I use for some additional off camera flash to help the creativity and give the flowers or animals some more depth.

A new lens has joined my macro line up – the MP-E 65 f/2.8. It’s wonderful to be able to photograph things bigger than life size!

I hope that the photos contained here in provide some inspiration and encouragement to pick up the camera at least once every couple of days (if time doesn’t permit a one a day project).

If you see an image and wonder how I achieved it – just ask and I’ll post the answer over at my other blog – http://www.macro101.com

All images on this blog are 1:1 unless otherwise stated.

Take care and happy snapping
